Music and Choir

We are a musical congregation and invite you to make music with us. The founders of Methodism placed high importance of worshipping through music and we continue that tradition. Sing hymns during worship, play an instrument, join the gospel group or choir. Any way you participate, enjoy the rich musical tradition of the United Methodist church by joining us at SUMC. No experience required!

We are fortunate to have several accomplished instrumentalists who accompany the organ and piano selections and the hymns.

The Sanctuary Choir is a multi-generation group of volunteers who sing at the 10:00 a.m. service, led by our Choir Director. They learn and share a variety of sacred music during the program year.

The choir meets to rehearse Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday mornings at 9:10 a.m. during the fall, winter and spring. Any singers, beginners through advanced, are welcome to join.

We have several accomplished instrumentalists among the choir and congregation, and they are encouraged to add to our choral work on a regular basis.

Our Organ

Our church is home to a two-manual Stuart tracker organ. The Stuart underwent a complete renovation in 2001 which improved its action and increased its brilliance.

The organ is an important part of all of our music. Sunday preludes and postludes are an opportunity to explore the capabilities of this tracker (mechanical action) instrument. Kevin Murphy, our Music Director, chooses the music with thought and care and awareness of the liturgical year.

Connexions Concert Series

Connexions Concerts are held quarterly on Sunday afternoons with light refreshments afterwards. This series was founded in 2008 to accommodate the many talented singers and players found in our church community. It is an ongoing opportunity to showcase their talents and to invite other friends and performers into our church.
