Music in
our church plays an important and integral part in
worship. We presently have 2 singing groups:
-- Gospel group (age 8 to adult)
-- Sanctuary Choir (grade 11 and up)
The Gospel group performs during the academic year in
the worship service, and the Sanctuary choir sings
regularly on Sunday mornings.
There are also two instrumental ensembles, one mixed
ensemble and one recorder ensemble, that meet at
different times through the program year with Rob
Hammerton.
Several special music programs are presented each year,
including presentations at Christmas and Easter. We
have also enjoyed presenting choral exchanges and pops
concerts.
The organ is an important support for almost all our
music, and Sunday preludes and postludes are an
opportunity to explore the capabilities of this tracker
(mechanical action) instrument.
Our choral music is often augmented by instrumentalists
from within the SUMC community and from outside. We are
fortunate to have skilled brass, string, and wind
players among us. We are regularly joined by groups
like the Trinity Brass, a brass quintet based in
Bolton, Mass. |
