About Our School

Sponsored by the church, Sunny Hill offers a play-based program that combines preparation for   kindergarten with an emphasis on a child’s social and emotional development. The school makes a high quality, affordable, nurturing and supportive early childhood learning environment available to families in Sudbury and the surrounding communities.

Philosophy and Mission

Sunny Hill Preschool was founded as a non-profit organization in 1958 by the Sudbury United Methodist Church, and we will celebrate our fiftieth anniversary in 2008. While the school is sponsored by the church, religion is not a part of the curriculum. The school offers a play-based program that combines preparation for kindergarten with an emphasis on a child’s social and emotional development. The mission of the school is to make a high quality, affordable, nurturing and supportive early childhood learning environment available to families in Sudbury and the surrounding communities. As one of the very first programs in the Sudbury area, it also served as model of excellence in early childhood education. The daily operations of the school are overseen by a full-time Director.  An appointed committee of church members is responsible for policy making and various functions related to the operation of the school.

Our Programs Sunny Hill Preschool is in session five days per week, and follows a school year calendar. We offer two, three, four and five day morning and afternoon programs for two, three and four year-old children. Our program offerings are determined each year based on the needs of the families in our community.  The focus of the programs at Sunny Hill Preschool is on the whole child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. Teachers develop classroom themes and activities that integrate sensory experiences, pre-reading and pre-math concepts, science, social studies, art, social and self-help skills. Children sing with our music teacher, dance with our movement teacher and explore the world with many special visitors throughout the year.

Special programs each year include The New England Aquarium Tidepool Program, Drumlin Farm’s Audubon Ark, The Rainforest Reptiles and many other special programs that enhance our daily curriculum. Although schedules vary from classroom to classroom, you can expect your child to be involved in the following daily activities: circle time, free play, creative art, cooking, science, music, story time, daily snack and outdoor play.
